PEC offering $50,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors
SPECIAL TO THE PICAYUNE
JOHNSON CITY — The Pedernales Electric Cooperative is accepting applications from local high school and home-schooled seniors for $50,000 worth of scholarships.
In the spring, PEC will give 14 scholarships to graduating seniors with amounts ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, according to the cooperative. The scholarships can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school or trade school. Each scholarship recipient must be a senior in high school or home school, and his or her parents or legal guardians must be PEC members.
Recipients will be selected based on an applicant profile including academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need.
This year, applicants also will be evaluated on an essay on the following topic: PEC is dedicated to serving members, bringing added value to their lives and enriching our communities. Mentors and role models also bring value and enrich our lives. Identify a lesson you’ve learned from a mentor/role model and how that has impacted you.
The PEC Scholarship Committee selects a panel of independent judges to determine recipients.
