LAMPASAS — After leading at halftime, the Burnet boys basketball team only scored seven points in the second half in a 40-26 loss to Lampasas on Feb. 5.

“We didn’t play well, we didn’t execute on offense, and that’s on me,” Bulldogs head coach Roy Kiser said. “I didn’t have them ready. We’ll go back to the drawing board.”

The Badgers led 10-6 after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs took a 19-16 halftime lead.

Lampasas scored a 3-pointer as the horn sounded to end the third period for a 27-24 lead and then held Burnet scoreless for almost seven minutes in the final quarter. The Badgers were on a 10-0 run that ended when Burnet junior guard Derek Kiser scored on a reverse layup.

The good news is the Bulldogs already clinched a playoff spot. But the loss knocked Burnet out of a first-place tie with Liberty Hill in District 8-3A. The Panthers defeated Gatesville 51-43 on Feb. 5 to take sole possession of the top spot.
