Joe Allen Sanders

<p>Joe Allen Sanders, 82, of Kingsland passed away in Llano on Nov. 29, 2012. He was born to William Earl and Ina Mae Sanders in San Antonio on Jan. 6, 1930.</p>
<p>Joe attended South San Antonio schools and, with a football scholarship, went to Trinity University in San Antonio.</p>
<p>He proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. He traveled to many interesting places, including Hawaii, Hong Kong, Panama, Guam, California and New York City. After his discharge in 1953, he went to work for Baker Oil Tools in Houston and retired after 33 years of service.</p>
<p>He and Ruby met in 1951 in Houston, where she was working and he was stationed. They were married on Dec. 19, 1953, and spent a lot of time saltwater fishing and deer hunting together.</p>
<p>Outdoor sports were his favorite along with cameras and taking wedding photographs. He photographed recipients of awards at banquets for the company. He taught his sons and one grandson at a young age to fish and hunt and follow in his footsteps.</p>
<p>In 1982, they bought their home on Lake LBJ and, in 1986, both retired and moved to Kingsland. They traveled some but found out they had a good place to live and enjoy.</p>
<p>Joe was a Korean War veteran, an American Legion Paid Up For Life member for 33 years and a past commander of the American Legion Post #437, a member of the Highland Lakes Sons of Hermann #317 and many other organizations. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his good tomatoes and reading. Cooking was a challenge and his barbecue brisket was a favorite for many.</p>
<p>Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby; son Pat Sanders and friend Darlene Wright; grandson Corey Joe Sanders; and sister Lois Newell.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his parents; son Casey Joe; sister Florene Peller; brothers William and Charlie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.</p>
<p>A memorial service is 1p.m. Dec. 8 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1803 RR 1431 in Marble Falls. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.</p>
