Marble Falls High School weight room getting AC system

MARBLE FALLS — After Marble Falls Independent School District spent about $100,000 for new training equipment this summer, a new cooling system is being installed in the Marble Falls High School weight room, Assistant Superintendent Allen Roberts said.

"We’re close to having it done in the next few weeks," he said. "We’re probably two weeks away from finishing that."

MFISD already purchased the air-conditioning units and ducts. In addition, two of the four garage doors will be replaced with glass to be used as windows. Total cost for the project is $30,000, Roberts said.

"If we would have outsourced it, it would have cost $70,000," he said.

School district staff members are performing the labor themselves, Roberts said, which is the reason why it’s taking time to finish up.

"We’re in the process of doing the electrical wiring," he said. "Once the ducts are done, we’ll start putting in the AC unit."

Performance Course, a program that specializes in weight and conditioning, conducted the Mustangs’ summer workouts that began at 7 a.m. for boys in grades 10-12. Performance Course coach David Granson developed programs specifically designed for high school male and female athletes, middle school male and female athletes and some elementary-aged children.

"The weight room is something to improve all of our athletes," athletic director and head football coach Todd Dodge said.

About 200 Mustangs attended the course four days a week during June and July.

Since the beginning of the school year, Granson offers an adult Performance Course that meets at the weight room for a morning session or an afternoon session.

Roberts said the updated weight room has helped community members of all ages.

"It benefits our employees and community," he said.
