BURNET — A 62-34 victory against Llano on Nov. 2 garnered a statewide honor for a Burnet Bulldogs’ football player.

Junior quarterback Derek Kiser was named the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Class 3A Player of the Week on Nov. 7.

Kiser completed 21 of 26 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns and added a 7-yard rushing touchdown.

Head coach Kurt Jones said Kiser shares the award with his teammates because it takes each player performing well in his role to help the Bulldogs be successful.

“It’s one of the most prestigious awards out there,” he said. “Derek is at the forefront, but it’s a team deal and a team thing.”

Kiser will be presented with the award sometime during the week of Nov. 12, although details have not yet been finalized.

For the season, Kiser has completed 164 passes for 2,263 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The last Burnet player to be honored by the Ford Motor Co. was former quarterback Dillon Chafin in 2008.

Kiser is the second Burnet County athlete to be named a player of the week during the 2012 season. Marble Falls High School senior quarterback Mike Richardson was named the Class 4A Player of the Week after his 724 passing yards in the 62-55 victory against Boerne Champion on Sept. 20.
