Walter John Zagst, 60, died Oct. 22, 2012, after a year-long battle with a rare bile-duct cancer. He was born on Jan. 6, 1952. He was raised in Houston and spent his adult years in the Austin area.

He was a master carpenter and woodworker and enjoyed golf, sailing and the annual Zagst Brothers Croquet Tournament.

Survivors include wife Doris; dogs Sara, Skylar and Teddy; brothers Chuck and wife Terry and Fred and wife Kay; nephews Trey and wife Joni and Rusty and wife Angie and their children; and friends Ted and John Zapp.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Marie Zagst and nephew Benjamin.

He will be missed by his many friends and extended family for his laugh, stories, beautiful woodworking and optimistic attitude.

A remembrance gathering for family and friends is pending.
