Lady Stangs still looking for first district win

CEDAR PARK — Marble Falls had led during its match against Cedar Park High on Sept. 11 but couldn’t close out a set, losing 21-25, 21-25, 21-25.

ON DEFENSE: Blocks — Whitecotton 2. Digs — Fishbeck 11, Kelsey Bauers 5.

QUOTABLE: “The defensive game for the Lady Mustangs was outstanding but unbalanced with the offense, therefore causing the Mustangs to come up short,” head coach Julie Downs said.

RECORDS: Marble Falls is 14-9-1 and 0-2 in District 25-4A.

Leander High sweeps Lady Mustangs

LEANDER — The Lady Lions took a business-like attitude into the District 25-4A opener against Marble Falls on Sept. 7.

Marble Falls head coach Julie Downs said her squad missed too many serves and suffered too many errors to counter the great hitters Leander featured.

ON OFFENSE: Kills — Hayley Fishbeck 10, Haley Coulter 4, Catie Whitecotton 4. Assists — Haley Coulter 18.

ON DEFENSE: Blocks — Whitecotton 4. Digs — Lacie Long 14, Kaitlyn Naumann 7.

QUOTABLE: “We fought to the last point but never closed the margin,” head coach Julie Downs said. “We will continue to practice strong, condition hard and prepare for the ultimate goal of making it to the playoffs. I have confidence in our girls and their abilities and believe that we can perform better and be successful.”

Burnet wins three straight against Rockdale

ROCKDALE — All three Burnet High School volleyball teams took home victories against Rockdale on Sept. 7.

The Lady Dawgs varsity team didn’t give up more than 21 points in each set, winning 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.

ON OFFENSE: Kills — Cassidy Connolly 10, Riley Scott 6, Rose Bailey 5. Assists — Danielle Lindley 18, Sarah Poe 7. Aces — Scott 3, Riana Bond 2.

ON DEFENSE: Blocks — Sarah Poe 1.5, Connolly 1. Digs — R. Bond 12, Connolly 4.

SUBVARSITY: Burnet junior varsity won 25-17, 25-21. Burnet freshmen won 25-14, 16-25, 25-18.

RECORDS: Burnet is 3-15.

Burnet 8th B loses to Brownwood

BROWNWOOD — The Lady Pups forced a third game after losing the first set Sept. 6. But Brownwood didn’t let the match slip away.

QUOTABLE: “The girls did a great job coming back as a team in the second game and fighting to the very end,” coach Jeanne Jackson said. “The two teams were pretty evenly matched.”

Burnet 7th A defeats Brownwood

BROWNWOOD —The Lady Pups only needed two games to win their season opener against Brownwood on Sept 6.

They weren’t challenged in the final set, coming away with a 25-22, 25-13 victory.

QUOTABLE: “The girls won in two games with solid serving being the key for the wins,” coach Jeanne Jackson said.
