Robert ‘Bob’ Eugene Powell

Robert “Bob” Eugene Powell, 64, of Bryan died Aug. 25, 2012, surrounded by family. He was born in Fort Worth on Dec. 20, 1947, to Mike Eugene and Mavis Louise Powell.
He attended Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, where he was head of the drum and bugle corp, a drum major and played sports. He received a football scholarship to Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, in San Marcos. After he finished his degree in business, he moved to Austin to continue his education at the University of Texas.
While in Austin, he pursued his love and talent as a musician by playing drums in rock, blues, and country bands.
In 1970, he married Jane Page Childers at First Christian Church in Llano, where he served as deacon. They were married for 42 years.
While living in Bryan, he was employed in retail grocery management until his retirement.
He was known for his kind, helpful heart and sense of humor. He loved working on cars, riding motorcycles, fishing, music, the Longhorns and spending time with his granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Heidi Powell and husband Jesse Isaiz Jr.; granddaughter Exia Isaiz; sister Michele Casey; brothers Mike, Warren and Ronnie Powell; and longtime friend Virgil Johnson.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A graveside service is 10 a.m. Aug. 30 at Llano City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Brazos Valley for their care and the non-emergency firefighters of Bryan for their help.
