Betty Stewart Fox, 82, of Kerrville died Aug. 4, 2012, at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Cecil Creek, Ark., the daughter of Henry and Sybil Stewart. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley when she was 4.

She graduated from Raymondville High School and married Alan J. Fox aftergraduation. They were married for 53 years. They had a daughter Jan. 29, 1965. The couple lived and worked in the Raymondville area operating the Fox Farms and Ranch and the Fox Flying Service.

 

She was involved in various civic activities in the Raymondville area and  loved to read and sew. The couple were lifelong Methodists and longtime members of the First United Methodist Church of Raymondville.

In the late 1990s, they retired to Kerrville. They spent many hours designing and crafting stained glass items.

Several stained glass windows at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Bandera were lovingly and carefully crafted by the couple.

Survivors include daughter Charlotte “Charlie” Simpson of Horseshoe Bay; sister Creta Hiatt of Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her four-legged “grandchildren” Tex, Rex, Pacey, Pockets and Ocho.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; son-in law Richard “Dick” Simpson of Horseshoe Bay in 2009; parents; sister Sue Hevenor; brother Bill Stewart; in-laws Gorman and Eva Fox; sister-in-law Barbara Fox Fish; and niece Darryl Fish.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Aug. 7 at Grimes Funeral Chapel, 728 Jefferson St. in Kerrville, (830) 257-4544.

A funeral service is 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 408 Texas 173 North in Bandera, with the Rev. Ellen Ely of First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery after the service.

Pallbearers are Tom Wetegrove, Tom Pollard, Joe Herod, Russell Hevenor, Clyde Reagan and Lehman Stewart.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls.
