Laurence "Larry" Stephens, 73, died July 1, 2012. He was born in Charleston, W. Va., on Feb. 10, 1939, to Delbert R. and Angela R. Stephens.

A graduate of Nitro High School, he furthered his education at Duke University in North Carolina on a Naval scholarship. In May 1960, he received his degree in mechanical engineering and was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy.

In 1963, after his Naval service, he was employed by E.I. Dupont as a plant engineer. He retired in 1997 as a plant environmental specialist in Nederland with 38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sondra "Sonnie" Stephens; daughters Kelly Rae Blanscet of Cedar Park and Randi Lee Stephens of Buchanan Dam; grandchildren Kelsey Blanscet and Kristofer Blanscet, both of Cedar Park; and brother James Stephens and wife Candy of Yorktown.
A funeral service was July 7 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. A graveside service is 2 p.m. July 12 at Cunningham Memorial Garden in St. Albans, W. Va. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), P.O. Box 62000, Midland, TX 79711, with his name written in the memo line on the check.
