Helen Schneider Kassell
Helen Schneider Kassell, 90, of Llano died May 2, 2012, surrounded by her children. She was born March 18, 1922, to Max and Bertha (Richter) Schneider.
She was the seventh of nine children and said being seventh from the top and third from the bottom made her a perfect 10.
She was raised in what she thought was the best of times and by the best of parents. Their humble lifestyle and hard work instilled in her a keen survival instinct and a tremendous devotion to her family. She felt being a mother was the greatest blessing in life, and she enjoyed “mothering” more than just her own children. Their friends, as well as numerous others, seemed to migrate toward her for advice and insight about life.
Survivors include children Joan Myers Reed and husband Lony and his family, Sandra Eden and husband Jim, June Kassell and husband Scotty Holman and Leland Kassell and wife Teresa; grandchildren Cheryl, Kristie, Sheldon, Barrett, Trey, Ryan, Ginger and Bradley; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Robert Kassell; parents; siblings Amzy Schneider, Warren Schneider, Tonie Ferguson, Elva Capps, Ruby Evans Otto, Bernice Davis, Maxine Nerren and Mabel DiRegolo; and son-in-law Jim Myers.
She felt her life was enriched by very special friends and caregivers Eva Wisdom, Scott and Barbara Augustine and Stacy Roberts. Each of them brought very special moments to her life and gave her the pleasure of having more people to corral.
A visitation is 4:30-6 p.m. May 5 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A service is 1 p.m. May 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Castell with Pastor Elliot Pancoast officiating. Burial will follow at Kassell Cemetery.
