Residents who care about having the cleanest and prettiest city in Texas have a chance to do something about it this week.

Marble Falls is sponsoring Spring Clean 2012, which gives denizens three ways to get rid of trash and help beautify the city.

Many consider the city the gem along the Colorado River, and there’s no reason to let that image suffer.

Everyone should take part in Spring Clean 2012, which is for residents who live inside the city limits of Marble Falls.

The comprehensive event, which runs through April 22, gives residents a chance to dispose of items too large or too bulky for typical garbage pickup.

The city and Allied Waste are sponsors.

“This is an economical way for our community to clean itself up,” City Manager Ralph Hendricks recently said.

Here are the dates:

• Monday-Friday, curbside brush pickup: Place tree limbs and brush on the curbside away from mailboxes and utility lines. The Public Works Department will collect the piles one section of the city at a time.

• Monday-Friday, curbside bulk item pickup: On your regular trash day, Allied Waste will also collect large refuse such as furniture, appliances, yard waste and bundled brush. Please note: It helps if you put the items in boxes, bags or bundles; don’t block your trash can, sidewalks, utilities or driveways.

Also, no hazardous waste (such as wet paint), tires, batteries, appliances with freon or tree stumps.

• Through April 22, bulk item drop-off: Residents can leave bulk items at the old Public Works Department building, 1001 Second St., Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The city needs to see your proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, other photo ID or a utility bill.

The city will not accept yard waste, construction materials, tires, fluorescent tubes, oil filters, paint and thinners, herbicides/pesticides, radioactive materials, car parts, chemicals, computers, monitors, liquids, batteries or any other hazardous materials.

This is a wonderful opportunity to keep the city beautiful. Take some pride in where you live and make this a community event.

Gather relatives and friends, assemble your church or civic group or make the cleanup a project for your Scout pack or youth ensemble. There are so many ways to turn drab into “fab” by caring enough to pick up your surroundings.

This opportunity is just another way to cement Marble Falls’ reputation as a great place to visit and live.

So go ahead: Pick up Marble Falls and make it sparkle.
