Ronald Sexton Hibler, 87, of Oatmeal died March 30, 2012, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Oatmeal to Ben and Pearl Hibler. He graduated from Oatmeal High School in 1942. He was a star athlete and represented his school in several county spelling bees.

He served in the Navy from 1943-1946, 27 months overseas on several different carriers.

He retired from the United States Postal Service in Houston after having worked there for more than 30 years. After his retirement, he was able to fulfill his life’s dream of settling back in the Oatmeal community, where he enjoyed the peace and quiet of country life while spending time with his dogs and family.

In the last year of his life he was cared for at home by his niece Cindy, nephew Carl and caregivers Charlotte Tucker, Ruth Pruitt and Tammy Price.

The family is grateful for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank Burnet Girling Home Healthcare for their support and Lighthouse Hospice for their love and kindness.

He was a long-time supporter and advocate of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and several other humane societies. His best friend and loyal companion was his black-and-white border collie, Yip-Yip, who stayed by his master’s side until the very end.

Survivors include twin brother Donald S. Hibler of Oatmeal; nephews Carl Hibler and wife Cindy of Oatmeal, Benny Hibler and wife Anita or Pasadena, Otis Hibler of Bulverde, Jimmy Hibler and wife Delilah of Bertram; niece Shirley Norris of Bertram; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, of 48 years.

Visitation was April 1 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main in Burnet, (512) 756-4444.

A graveside service was April 2 at the Oatmeal Cemetery in Oatmeal.
