Hiram DeoRote Kirkpatrick, 87, of Kingsland died Feb. 19, 2012. He was born in Agana, Guam, on Nov. 12, 1924, to Clifford Burch and Augusta Elizabeth (Hagan) Kirkpatrick.

He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and was at the Omaha Beach invasion. He then served with the Marine Corps and transferred from active service to the Marine Reserve in 1961. He retired from the Marines in 1974 as a gunnery sergeant.

He loved all of God’s creatures, especially his faithful dog Ling Ling and his cat Sam.

Survivors include daughter Deborah Stephens Kirkpatrick of Dallas; granddaughter Heather Hill; great-grandchildren Abby Lea Hill and Hadden Hill of New Hope, Ark.; brother Wallace Cecil Kirkpatrick and wife Mary Helen of Carrollton; sister Betty Ralston of Kingsland; sisters-in-law Betty Starr Kirkpatrick of Bee Cave and Wanda Kirkpatrick of Flower Mound; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clifford Kirkpatrick, Artier Kirkpatrick and Bill Kirkpatrick; sisters Roxy Robbins and Mary Grimes; and wife Ernestine Davis Donaldson Kirkpatrick.

A service is 3 p.m. Feb. 22 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. Interment is 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens in Brooksfield, Fla.
