Ann Laura Amthor Davis, 93, died Feb. 10, 2012, in Marble Falls. She was born in San Saba on Aug. 14, 1918, to George Marcus and Clara Kelly Amthor.

She spent her youth on the A.H. Kelly Ranch with her grandmother Laura Harrison Kelly and aunt Minnie Kelly. She graduated from San Saba High School and then from Texas Women’s University in 1940 with an English degree. She became a teacher.

She met her husband, Billy Harlan Davis, in Ferris. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1946 at the United Methodist Church in San Saba. The couple moved to College Station while he completed his education at Texas A&M University. After his graduation, they moved to Houston, where he worked for Gulf Oil Corp. His career led them to Odessa in 1962 and eventually to Inks Lake after his retirement in 1979.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Association, Bluebonnet Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. She also was president of the Odessa Study Club and was a member of the Odessa Garden Club, the Pink Ladies Hospital Volunteers and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was proud of her Texas ancestors, including famed Texas Ranger William “Big Foot” Wallace, and the Amthor family from Cat Springs.

She enjoyed growing roses, hydrangeas, irises and African violets and playing bridge. She was a gifted oil painter. She loved wearing her high heels, hats and gloves.

Her children were her pride and joy.

Survivors include son Jerome Kelly Davis and wife Rosanne of Horseshoe Bay; daughter Jill Davis Wooten and husband W. Harris Wooten of Houston; grandchildren Kelly Davis Aldridge and husband Jay, Whitney Wooten Hinton and husband James Hinton Jr. and William Bryan Wooten; great-grandchildren Brendan Cockroft, Bailie Tomlinson, Breannon Tomlinson and Leighton Hinton; sister-in-law Shirley Campbell Amthor; numerous nieces and nephews, all of San Saba; friend Lucille Flores; and extended family members Ashley Wood, Gregory Wood and Natalie and Mark Bier and sons Everett and Garrett.

She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers George Marcus Amthor II and William Kelly Amthor.

The family thanks Lucille Flores and Lynn and Betty Faught of San Saba for their care of the A.H. Kelly Ranch, the staff at Gateway Gardens in Marble Falls and Seton Burnet Hospice doctors David Greenwell and Glenn Preston.

A graveside service is 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at San Saba Cemetery on Texas 16 North in San Saba with Marcus Dale Amthor and Grady Roe officiating.

Honorary pallbearers include George Marcus Amthor III, Marcus Dale Amthor, William Bryan Wooten, Brendan Cockcroft, James Hinton Jr. and Jay Aldridge.
