Eugene Taylor, 78, of Highland Haven died Feb. 8, 2012. He was born in Childress on Aug. 30, 1933, to James and Annie Pillow Taylor.

He married Jo Davis McArthur in 1977.

He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a lineman and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the Highland Haven Property Owners Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a licensed vessel captain.

In his spare time, he enjoyed ocean fishing on his vessel “Skipjack.”

Survivors include children David Taylor and wife Barbara of Childress and Jeanne Bryant and husband Rob of Jackson, Mo.; stepchildren Mark McArthur and wife Frances of Paige, Kathryn Walsh and Larry Lynch of Dacono, Colo.; Doman McArthur and wife Kathleen of Millersville, Md.; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Ann Truly of California.

A visitation is  9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb 10 at Putnam Funeral Home & Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A service follows at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Don McFarland officiating and honors by the Highland Lakes Honor Guard.

Burial services will be 1:45 p.m.  Feb. 17 with Navy military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
