With realignment, Marble Falls stays in 25-4A while Burnet moves to 8-3A

MARBLE FALLS — When the University Interscholastic League announced realignment early Feb. 2, the Marble Falls High School athletic program wasn’t surprised by where the Mustangs landed.

They will stay in District 25-4A in Region IV with Leander Vandegrift (1,461 students), Leander Rouse (1,858), Cedar Park High (1,796), Cedar Park Vista Ridge (1,795) and Dripping Springs (1,306.5).

The Mustangs had expected Leander High would join the district and replace Lake Travis, which moved up to Class 5A.

Burnet (956), however, will move into District 8-3A in Region I with Lampasas (979), Liberty Hill and Llano (530). The four have competed against each other for the past four years. But instead of facing Salado and Taylor, the teams will have share the district with Brownwood, led by former Burnet head football coach and athletic director Bob Shipley, and Gatesville.

In nondistrict action, the Bulldog football team has played Gatesville and Brownwood the past few years and the basketball team has faced Brownwood.

Lake Travis, which made high school football history by winning five straight state titles, will be a member of District 15-5A in Region II with Austin Westlake, Austin Bowie, Austin High, Austin Akins and Del Valle.

The enrollment cutoff for 4A is 1,005-2,089 students, while the cutoff for 3A is 450-1,004.
