Lora Marie Samford Pierson
Lora Marie Samford Pierson, 93, of Burnet died Jan. 24, 2012. She was born May 30, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., to Ralph W. Samford and Lottie Bell Joseph.
She married John O. Pierson in Corpus Christi on Nov. 24, 1946. They were married for 63 years. During the early years of her marriage, she and her mother fed 12 or more farmhands on the Pierson family wheat farm in Spokane, Wash.
In March 1969 they returned to Corpus Christi and moved into a new home they built. Her husband and a partner opened Flour Bluff Lumber Co. and she went to work at the Casual Corner Dress Shop in Parkdale Plaza, where she remained for many years.
They both retired in the early 1980s and spent time traveling. She loved to draw and paint pictures, grow plants and flowers, and sit and swing with her husband under their big shade tree in the afternoon.
They enjoyed participating in church activities and church administration at Windsor Baptist Church, where they were active before moving to Burnet. The couple relocated to an assisted-living retirement home in September 2008, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Survivors include sister Thelma Lee Schrader of Marble Falls; nephews Gary Schrader and Ralph Samford and wife Patsy, all of Burnet; and cousins Annie Mae Cowan of Kingsland and Leona McDaniel of Burnet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Ralph M. Samford.
A visitation was Jan. 26 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
Graveside services and interment were held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Lake Victor Jan. 27 with Chaplain Donna Lazon presiding.
