Joe Price Wilson

Joe P. Wilson, 75, of Leander died Jan. 24, 2012. He was born in San Antonio on Oct. 6, 1936, to J.V. “Pinky” and Irma (Edney) Wilson.
He could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. At an early age, he began helping his father on their ranch near Florence.
He attended Bertram High School and graduated from Burnet High School, lettering in football. He continued his education at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science and completing his Master of Education in 1964. He was a true Aggie through and through. He bled maroon.
He served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and trained in Japan as a judo instructor. His interests included all sports, especially football, baseball, basketball and golf. He loved to play games and was extremely competitive.
He spent more than 30 years in Gainesville, working for Cooke County College/North Central College as a physical education teacher, athletic director and women’s volleyball coach. He took great pride in the fact that under his leadership, the Lady Lions varsity volleyball team had six straight winning seasons since its starting in 1985. In 1991, the Cooke County College Lady Lions went to the Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament in Florida, earning a final ranking of seventh in the nation and a Resolution of Commendation from the Cooke County College Board of Trustees.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Robbin Wilson; daughters Deby Brandos and Dana Stupka; sons Scott Walterscheid and Brian Wilson; stepdaughter Cassandra Coffey; stepsons Dan Coffey, Matthew Coffey and William Coffey; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law Enid Slinzak.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service is 10 a.m. Jan. 31 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. The Rev. Rodney McGee will officiate.
