William Henry Rieniets Sr.

William Henry Rieniets Sr., 85, died Jan. 12, 2012, in Horseshoe Bay. He was born in Quenemo, Kan., to G.C. and Ethel E. Rieniets.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. During that time, he met the love of his life, Jean M. Tankersley, at the Hollywood USO. They married in June 1946.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Sciene in earth science from Kansas State University in 1950. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity while in college, played on the varsity basketball team for Kansas State and remained a loyal fan for life. His career led him through United States Geological Survey, the Kansas State Water Authority, Pure Oil Co. (in Houston and New Orleans), American Petro Fina French Division (in New Orleans and Houston), Omni Exploration Company (in Radner, Pa.) and Rosewood Resources (in Dallas). Through the years, he worked as a geologist, manager and in executive management.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ. He was able to pursue his passions of fishing, boating, golfing, bird hunting and poker nights.
He served as treasurer in 1996-1997 and executive vice president in 1997-1998 of the Horseshoe Bay Property Owners Association board of directors and as an usher/communion servant at a Horseshoe Bay Protestant church. He loved his many friends and was a treasure to them all.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years; son William H. Rieniets Jr. and wife Marilyn of Humble; daughter Karen J. LeDesma and husband Raymond of Marble Falls; grandchildren William D. Rieniets, Melissa Rieniets and Courtney Rieniets, all of Humble, Rogelio A. Borrego and wife Ana of Draper, Utah, and Matthew Gore, Aubri and Caeden LeDesma, all of Marble Falls; and great-grandchildren Kristie and Karlie Rieniets and Lily Rieniets, both of Humble, and Jillian and Andrew Borrego of Draper, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Thelma Reed, brother-in-law Quentin Reed; and great-grandson Austin Rieniets.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Church at Horseshoe Bay.
