Lawrence Joseph Fickey, 88, of Kingsland died Jan. 5, 2012. He was born in Kurten on May 7, 1923, to Joe and Alma (Hinz) Fickey.

He attended school in Kurten before marrying Lillie Mae Fojtik, his wife of 48 years.

He worked for Griesser’s Electric and Bryan Air Force Base before starting Fickey Electric. He worked as an electrical contractor for 30 years until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working on his farm in Bryan, fishing on the Brazos and Navasota rivers with friends, gardening, playing dominos with his brothers and water activities on Lake LBJ.

Most of all, he was a devout Christian, husband, father and grandfather.

In 1987, he and his wife retired to their lake home, where she died suddenly in 1989.

In 1993, he married Erma Turpin and they resided in Kingsland until his death.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Erma Fickey of Kingsland; son Dr. Gaylen and wife Bonnie of Corinth; daughters LaRita Fickey of Bryan and Gwen Green and husband Blake of Dripping Springs; grandchildren Zack Fickey of Dallas and Kate Lawson and husband Eric of Dallas; brothers Raymond Fickey of Kurten and Louis Fickey and wife Dorothy; sisters Irene Stevener and husband Antone, Jolene Broach and Charlotte Ponzio, all of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lil Fickey; and brother Ernest “Sonny” Fickey.

A rosary will be recited 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, with a viewing to follow until 5 p.m. A visitation is 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bryan. A rosary will begin at 11 a.m. and a burial Mass will be celebrated after the rosary with Monsignor John A. McCaffrey.  Committal is 10 a.m. Jan. 10 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.
