Charles Lavan DeVore

Charles Lavan DeVore, 81, of Kingsland died Jan. 4, 2012. He was born in Nolan County on May 23, 1930, to C.L. and Opal (Greer) DeVore.
He married Patsy Brownlow on June 4, 1948, in Lamesa.
He made a career as an oil field foreman, and in his spare time, he enjoyed bird hunting and working in the yard. He was known for his black-eyed peas and other staples he raised in his gardens. Up until a year ago, he could be found on the golf course.
He was a deacon at Highland Lakes Church of Christ and was a strong Christian, devout husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Patsy DeVore of Kingsland; daughters Carolyn Harris and husband David of Canyon and Betty Reven and husband Larry of Kingsland; six grandsons; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Gist and husband John of Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by brother Jerry DeVore and sister Paula DeVore.
A viewing was Jan. 6 at Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland. A service is 10 a.m. Jan. 7 at Highland Lakes Church of Christ with Joe Winnett presiding. Interment will follow at Llano City Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jason Harris, Clay Harris, Monty Harris, Dusty Harris, Dan Reven and Randy Reven.
