MARBLE FALLS — Perhaps they taught them too well.

The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team defeated its alumni 4-0 on Dec. 30 in a scrimmage at Mustang Stadium.

The alumni squad featured former standouts Robertlee Vidal and Jamie Hernandez.

But the day belonged to the 2012 Mustangs, who scored two goals in the first half on set pieces.

Junior midfield Danny Osornio scored the first goal when the goalie stepped out of the box, giving the shooter a clear path to the net.

The second came two minutes later from a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Uriel Soloranzano knocked the ball in when it bounced around near the net.

The other two goals came courtesy of junior midfielder Sergio Perez, a reserve.

The fact that a substitute scored two goals shows the talent on the squad, head coach Michael Nave said.

“It doesn’t get any better than that,” he said.

Though the scoring pleased the coach, Nave said he told his players they needed to intensify their efforts on defense.

“We gave them too many opportunities in the first half,” he said.

So he was happy the Mustangs picked up their defense in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Marble Falls will scrimmage Austin Travis at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Burger Center, 3200 Jones Road in Austin.
