Former Burnet football player conducts free free strength and conditioning clinic

BURNET — Former Burnet High School football standout Sonny Wilson understands the importance of staying in shape. That’s why he’s conducting his free Youth Mad Dawg Strength and Conditioning Camp 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wilson played for two Class 3A Division I state football championships in 2002 and 2003 and was teammates with former standouts Jordan Shipley and Stephen McGee.

Wilson’s clinic is at the old Burnet High School football field, which is across the street from Subway, 804 E. Polk St. off Texas 29.

The clinic is for athletes 5-15 and serves as an introduction to a camp Wilson will conduct as long as there’s interest.

“There’s a lot of people who want their kids to exercise,” he said.

He has coached youth football teams for three years and youth basketball squads for seven years, he said.

“I’m going to teach the kids teamwork skills,” he said. “After the workouts, we’re going to have some type of game to help them work together.”

Wilson can be contacted at (830) 613-0522 or at sonnywilson23@hotmail.com.
