Imogene “Jean” Ahrlett Halliburton, 81, of Llano died Dec. 22, 2011. She was born to Lois and Irvin Ahrlett Sr. on May 27, 1930, in Field Creek.

In her youth, she enjoyed trips to Llano in her family’s horse-pulled wagon and attending school in Pontotoc. She was also known by friends as “Dip” or “Dee.”

She married her husband Barney on Sept. 7, 1946. They set up housekeeping in a tent under an oak tree while he built her the home they lived in until her death.

She raised three children with much love and laughter. From skinned knees to alligators in her bathtub, she loved her children through it all.

They will remember her as a mother who had hugs and kind words for everyone who came into her life.

She was an incredible cook and homemaker. She was known for her chocolate pie, cookies and cornbread dressing. She spent most of her life taking care of her family, though she enjoyed creating ceramic dolls and sewing, as well as word puzzles and British comedies.

Her front porch was the window to her world; she and her husband spent hours every day sitting in rockers and watching the birds that flocked to that same oak tree.

Her grandchildren will hold dear the memory of their “Nanny Goat” sitting in her rocker waving goodbye after every visit they made.

In addition to her husband, survivors include daughter Brenda and husband Ronnie Brewer, daughter Janice and husband Jim Bob Moore and son Gary Halliburton; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service was Dec. 26 at the Waldrope-Hatfield- Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the Llano County Library.
