BASTROP — Only those who have lost their homes to a disaster can understand the feelings of uncertainty and worry.

Ira Franklin of Bertram knows those feelings well.

“I actually had that same thing happen to me,” he said. “Our house was burnt on the inside in 2002. I knew what it was like to have to stay with someone else.”

That’s why the Hill Country Colts center decided to help a Bastrop family that lost their home to the Labor Day wildfires when “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” led the effort in building a new house.
