Vaughan Brooks Bingham, 74, of Austin died Dec. 12, 2011. He was born in Burnet on Sept. 25, 1937, to Charles C. and Florence (Cook) Bingham.

He spent his youth in Burnet and was a graduate of Burnet High School and a member of the Church of Christ.  He moved to Austin in the early 1960s, and in June 1972, married Janice Hall.

For more than 20 years, he worked as a security officer at the Texas Capitol. In the early 1990s, he retired from the Department of Public Safety, which by that time had taken over security at the Capitol.

After his retirement, he enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Becky French and husband Robert of Hutto; grandchildren Joseph Bingham and Kaitlyn and James French, all of Hutto; brothers Gene and Jan Bingham of Salado and Robert Bingham of Houston; sister Charlene Amidon of Prattville, Ala.; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill Bingham; and sisters Frances Sims and Ruby Nelson.

Visitation is 1 p.m. Dec. 16 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. A graveside service follows at 3 p.m. at the Burnet City Cemetery with Ron Lehde officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin or to a charity of choice.
