BURNET — Nine players on the Burnet High School volleyball team were recognized for their performances by District 25-3A coaches.

“I thought that was a great honor,” Lady Dawgs head coach Bethany Grissom said. “I think with the ones who got MVP and first team, they speak for themselves.”

Grissom was named the coach of the year.

Senior outside hitter Kati Maldonado was named the co-Most Valuable Player with Salado senior middle blocker Carling Urben, while senior Ali Eaton was named the setter of the year.

“Kati and Carling dominated,” Grissom said. “They were the top players by far. It was pretty easy to select that one.”

When Eaton was a freshman, she wanted to be a hitter. But Grissom, who was in her first year as head coach in 2008, saw her set and knew where the player should line up.
