James Lester Ward, 79, of Granite Shoals died Nov. 21, 2011. He was born Feb. 14, 1932, in Cisco, one of three children to the late Lester and Mary Ward.

He spent much of his youth in Crane, raised his family in Fort Stockton and retired in Granite Shoals.

He received a degree from Sul Ross State University, served in the Army and went on to be a high-speed test driver for Firestone.

He was a man of many talents and interests, from participating in the rodeo to riding motor cross, boxing and coaching boxing in Golden Gloves. He lived a life of working hard and playing harder.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and blessed his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews with learning to ride and many Harley-Davidson trips to Sturgis, S.D.

He was an avid fisherman and boat enthusiast. His family has wonderful memories of camping trips, fishing contests and his 1-10 scale of falls when water skiing.

He touched the lives of many people with his humor and dedication.

He was married to Loyce Ward for more than 57 years.

Other survivors include his grandchildren Kymberly Mish Ledford, Jay Mack Ward, Jessica Maupin and Joe Maupin; his great-grandchildren Parker Ledford and Carson Ledford; and other family.

He was the father of the late Del Mack Ward and late Cindy Lea Ward.
