SMITHWICK — It’s a good old-fashioned turkey shoot.

Except there won’t be any real turkeys involved. Instead, hunters will take aim at targets or skeet to help some area families remember there are things to be thankful for.

“This is the time of year we typically remember all the things we’re thankful for,” said Stephen Galan of Lake Shores Church in Marble Falls. “But there are a lot of families out there who think that there’s not a whole lot to be thankful for this year.”

Galan and other community members decided they weren’t going to let that happen. So they are hosting the Highland Lakes Turkey Shoot Nov. 12 at the Copperhead Creek Shooting Club at the Hidden Falls Adventure Park, 7030 RR 1431 about seven miles east of Marble Falls.

Shooters can compete in the rifle or skeet competitions — or both. Entry fee is $40 per person with the profits going to assist area families who have fallen on rough times.
