Steven ‘Kip’ Maercklein

Steven “Kip” Maercklein, 66, of Smithwick died Oct. 13, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer.
He was a Texas state general certified appraiser and worked for 20 years with Donna Green at Highland Lakes Appraisers. Before that, he was senior real estate appraiser for the Solano County Assessors Office in California from 1987 to 1992.
He was a loving father and husband and a true and loyal friend.
As a musician, he toured and recorded with artists such as Freddie King, Albert Collins, Link Wray, Hart McNee, Stephen Miller, The Pointer Sisters and Elvin Bishop, John Lee Hooker, Little Willie Littlefield and many others.
His first band in high school was The Starfires.
He loved bass fishing in Texas and bass playing in California.
Over the years, he and his wife Geanie recorded five CDs together and provided the music for the movies “The Land of Shadowed Sand,” shown at the Austin Film Festival as a feature, and “The Larkshead Society.”
The couple celebrated 39 years together in October.
Survivors include his wife; son Wylie Maercklein, a photographer and filmmaker in Austin; sister Kay Lyon and her children John and Melissa; local cousins Tina and Sol and their two sons Caiden and Merrik; and aunt Rita Proctor.
A celebration of life is 3-5 p.m. Nov. 12 at Green’s home, 200 Bluebird Circle in Highland Haven. Bring a story, food or something to share with friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department.
