BURNET — When the 2011 volleyball season opened, few would have picked Burnet as the district champion. Most would have chosen Liberty Hill or Salado.

Yet the Lady Dawgs (24-13,
9-1) took the District 25-3A crown thanks to nearly running the table and avenging a first-round loss to Liberty Hill at home by going on the Lady Panthers’ home floor and winning there.

"I always set my goals high," head coach Bethany Grissom said. "I would hate to say I’m surprised. I’m happy. I always believed the girls could do it."

"It means everything," senior outside hitter Kristen Spinn said. "You go all four years, you set up a goal. That was one of our goals."

While players and coaches are pleased with the accomplishment, they said the season was filled with obstacles that challenged the resolve of the team.

"It’s not been an easy 9-1," Grissom said. "We’ve gone to five games five times."
