Ronald Dale ‘Ronnie’ Hawkins
Ronald Dale “Ronnie” Hawkins, 65 of Tow died Oct. 17, 2011, in Odessa. He was born in Odessa on June 3, 1946, to Cleo “Hawk” and Loretta Hawkins.
He married Jean Pence on Aug. 27, 1963, in Odessa.
He worked in the West Texas oilfields from the age of 17 until his retirement. In 1999, he then went to Lake Buchanan in Tow, where he worked for Canyon of the Eagles until 2008. Having never met a stranger, he made many friends at the resort.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, telling stories while sitting on his front-porch swing watching the birds and deer. He could tell you about all the birds in the Hill Country.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean Hawkins of Tow; son Jeff and wife Sherry of Odessa; daughters Cindy Storm and husband Roger of Odessa, Tammy Blackmon and husband Terry of Tow and Emily Hawkins-Smith of Odessa; grandchildren Ryne Storm (Andrea Abalos), Christopher and Leann Hawkins, Erik Storm, Justin Hawkins and Jacob Hawkins; great-grandchildren Branson Ross and Brooklyn Hawkins; brother Russell Hawkins and wife Ann of Boerne; and two nieces of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother Michael Eugene Hawkins in 2000.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A service is 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at the funeral home with the reverends Gary Sutton and Mike Courtney officiating. Burial will follow at Tow Cemetery.
Pallbearers include his grandsons Ryne Storm, Christopher Hawkins, Erik Storm, Justin Hawkins and sons-in-law Roger Storm and Terry Blackmon.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shai Lui and the nurses at Medical Center Hospital for their care and also the staff at Hospice House in Odessa.
