Alfred Paul Fleming, 95, died Sept. 30, 2011. He was born in West Frankfort, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1916, to James and Leatha Fleming.

He graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, Ind., in 1934. He married Esther Bailey on June 4, 1939, in a ceremony officiated by his minister father James Fleming.

In 1943, he went to work for IBM as a customer engineer. In 1946, IBM moved him and his family to Arkansas and then in 1952 to San Antonio. He stayed with IBM until his retirement in 1976.

He loved to travel and camp. When their children were growing up, he and and his wife frequently took them on tent-camping trips on the weekends and during the summer, including to Yellowstone National Park, one of his favorite destinations.

After retirement, the couple spent eight years living in their travel trailer and traveling across the United States and Canada.

After the death of his wife of 49 years in 1988, he always lived close to one of his children.

Survivors include his son Paul and wife Sandra of Georgetown; daughters Carol and husband Vince DeYoung of Lamont, Mich., and Donna and husband Tim Lane of Era; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A service is 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at First Baptist Church, 501 12th St. in Marble Falls, with Dr. E.M. Hay officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery near Smithwick.
