Lady Stangs get close look at nation’s top team
LAKE TRAVIS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball looked forward to the challenge of playing the nation’s No. 1 team.
And yet, Lake Travis (28-0) proved why it is the top team in Texas and in the United States, rolling to a 25-7, 25-14, 25-9 victory Sept. 9 in the District 25-4A opener for both squads.
“The No. 1-ranked team in the nation truly stood up to their reputation,” Lady Mustangs coach Julie Downs said. “The Cavaliers serve very well, hit very well and cover the court well defensively.”
Marble Falls (13-10) was able to run its offense, but Lake Travis was in position to stuff the Lady Mustangs’ blockers.
“The Lady Mustangs found themselves frustrated by the outstanding blocks put up by the Cavaliers and were greatly challenged to find an open spot on the court to execute a kill,” Downs said.
Still, Marble Falls was doing what coaches and fans expect, no matter the score, she said.
