Lady Mustangs get boost from road win before start of district
AUSTIN — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team is back to its winning ways.
The Lady Mustangs (12-9) earned a much-needed road victory Sept. 2 against Austin Travis, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.
Much needed, according to head coach Julie Downs, who had said she was looking for consistency and confidence before starting District 25-4A play. That begins 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 against Lake Travis at Max Copeland Gym, 2101 Mustang Drive.
While Marble Falls easily handled Travis in the first and second sets, Downs said the Lady Mustangs used the third set to learn.
“Game three allowed us to change up some lineups, try different servers and attempt a quick offensive scheme in preparation for district play,” she said.
Junior hitter Kiara Etheridge led the way with 11 kills followed by junior hitters Haley Fishbeck and Kaitlyn Naumann and junior middle blocker Catie Whitecotton with five each.
Junior setter Emily Chittum had 18 assists, while sophomore setter Haley Coulter added nine.
Junior defensive specialist Kelsey Bauers recorded 43 digs, while Fishbeck added 29.
