BURNET — With few exceptions, outdoor burning is banned in the rural areas of Burnet County until further notice.

The drought and extreme fire danger prompted a decision this week by county commissioners to keep the ban in place.

County Judge Donna Klaeger can lift the ban if the weather changes.

The ban prohibits:

• All outdoor burning of any combustible material.

• All outdoor activity that causes sparks including welding, cutting torches, grinders, outdoor cooking with wood or charcoal in an open or enclosed grill and the burning of prickly pear for livestock consumption.
