Lady Mustangs win two at Belton Tournament
BELTON — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team nabbed two wins during the Belton Tournament on Aug. 26-27.
The Lady Mustangs (11-9) defeated Florence in the consolation bracket and Killeen High in pool play.
“Florence was very scrappy but featured strong hitters,” head coach Julie Downs said. “They gave us an opportunity to execute some of our free ball plays and quick offenses.”
Junior outside hitter Kiara Etheridge recorded seven kills followed by junior outside hitter Hayley Fishbeck with four. Sophomore setter Haley Coulter led with 10 assists followed by junior setter Emily Chittum with eight. Junior libero Stephanie Garcia earned 36 digs, while Etheridge added 20.
The loss to Killeen Ellison in the consolation bracket came down to surviving key moments in each set, Downs said.
“Missed serves in game two at key points of the game created problems for us,” she said. “Great hustle — every ball was run down and returned on each side of the net.”
Etheridge had seven kills, 14 digs and two blocks.
