Dewey Halfacre
Dewey Halfacre, 82, died Aug. 22, 2011, in Kingsland. He was born in Salem, Ill., on April 16, 1929.
He led a full and busy life. Serving in the Army as a radar technician in Alaska no doubt contributed to his move to the warm weather of Nevada after his discharge. He worked for many years in various casinos in Las Vegas and Reno, Nev.
It was there he met his wife 32 years ago.
He was a rodeo enthusiast, competing successfully in a variety of events and was a lifetime honorary member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. While he did not compete after the couple moved to the Kingsland area, he loved to drop by local rodeos trading “good old boy” yarns with the other old timers.
He will be remembered by friends and family as the jokester who was always ready with a story or a card trick to entertain and amaze.
Survivors include wife Patti Halfacre of Kingsland and nephew Ken Jordan of Austin.
He was preceded in death by brothers Theodore and Arch Halfacre; and his sister Genny Jordan.
A memorial service is 1 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Putnam Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008, with the Rev. Jerald Moore officiating.
