Lady Jackets lose to Bandera
BANDERA — The Llano High School volleyball team lost to Bandera 18-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 10-15 on Aug. 23.
“We played terrible in games 1 and 2,” head coach Shawn Sweeten-Meredith said. “This is the second five-game match we’ve had. That particular destructive behavior has prevented us from winning. It allows far too much momentum from our opponents.”
Senior hitter Victoria Calzoncit led the Lady Jackets with 17 kills followed by senior middle blocker Kelsey Center with nine and senior hitter Jessica Wunderlich with seven.
Senior setter Paige Friedrich recorded 32 assists.
Calzoncit and Wunderlich had block blocks each, while Friedrich earned 17 digs followed by senior Cierra Jordan with 11 and Center with 10.
Sweeten-Meredith said this match reminded her a lot of the five-set loss to Boerne High School on Aug. 16 when the Lady Jackets recorded numerous errors and failed to close out sets in a more timely fashion.
“However, on a positive note, I’ve never coached another team that is determined to come back and fight like this Llano team,” she said. “We dominated in games 3 and 4, although we did not finish in game 5. Hopefully, we will be able to recover from this match and put our best foot forward.”
