Bernard Francis Royko, 72, of Burnet died Aug. 15, 2011, at an Austin hospital. He was born in Smock, Pa., on Sept. 8, 1938, to Joseph and Mary Konorosky Royko.

He graduated with an engineering degree from Ohio State University and was a lieutenant in the Air Force. He taught flying for more than 50 years and was a member of the Confederate Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Gay, of Burnet; daughters Christy Royko of San Antonio and Erica Royko of San Angelo; son David Royko and fiancé Kerry of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren Zachary, Serena, Eric and Breydeahn; siblings Margaret B. Glavinic, Anne Marie Chonko and Thomas Eugene Royko; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Joseph Bernard Royko, John Edward Royko, Alexander George Royko and Virginia M. Romanchak.

A service is 10 a.m. Aug. 18 at First United Methodist Church, 301 Graves St. in Burnet, with the Rev. Thom Elliott officiating. Interment will follow at Post Mountain Cemetery in Burnet.
