Leonard Lilburn Burt Jr., 85, of Llano died Aug. 15, 2011. He was born in Brownwood on June 12, 1926, to Leonard L. Sr. and Fay Preece Burt.

He was formerly of Austin, where five generations of his family made their homes.

He joined the Navy in 1943. The USS San Saba APA 232 and its crew of eager, young sailors went all over the South Pacific doing their part in World War II. After the war, he and his shipmates kept in touch with reunions each year.

He worked for the Hartford Insurance Group for 40 years, retiring in 1986 to travel. He was a man who never met a stranger and had many friends. He loved to often talk to them and see them when he could until chronic obstructive pulmonary disease left him so weak and sick he rarely left his home.

He was a member of the American Legion and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Mary; daughter Joyce Lyle and husband Jack of Wisconsin; son David Burt and wife Becky of Cedar Park; grandchildren Brian Lyle of Somers, N.Y., Amy Lyle of Verona, Wis., Bethanie Burt of Austin, Melissa Davis of Germany and Joshua Burt of Cedar Park; six great-grandchildren; and sister Betty Jo Pulliam of Sunrise Beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Linda; and two sisters.
