Lady Dawgs win pool at TEX-fest tourney
WIMBERLEY — The Burnet High School volleyball team went 4-2 at the TEX-fest Tournament on Aug. 12, winning their pool to advance to the gold bracket.
“There were moments of greatness, and there were some low moments,” head coach Bethany Grissom said. “We are currently working on finding some consistency in our play.”
The Lady Dawgs (5-3) were pushed by the Wimberley junior varsity team in pool play, sweeping the Texans 25-23, 25-21.
The Lady Dawgs defeated Randolph 25-15, 25-16 and Clemens 25-13, 25-20 to advance to the gold bracket, which featured the seven other pool winners.
Burnet beat Blano 25-17, 25-22 but lost to Fredericksburg 23-25, 23-25 and to La Vernia 19-25, 5-25.
“We had a rough time getting started Saturday morning against some good teams,” Grissom said, “but we finally found a groove against a strong Blanco team.”
Senior hitter Kati Maldonado was named to the all-tournament team, averaging six kills and seven digs a contest.
