Marcus R. Neuhaus, 94, of Tow, died Aug. 4, 2011. He was born in Diaz, Ark., on May 26, 1927, one of nine children to Henry Conrad Neuhaus and his wife Ona Elizabeth Henry.

He considered himself a farmer, but enjoyed surveying, woodworking and was a county agent in his younger years in Arkansas. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and spent more than 20 years in civil service in logistics at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Golfing was a favorite leisure activity. He was a member of the Tow Cemetery Association and Llano Farm Bureau. He worshiped with the congregation at Oaks West Church of Christ in Burnet.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Faye Behrn Neuhaus of Tow; daughters Marcia Neuhaus of Tow and Karen Neuhaus of San Antonio; sister Lena Newell of Oaktown, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edward, Wayne and Hugh; and sisters Doris Neuhaus, Gertie Simmons, Hester Poole and Della Ely.

A funeral service was Aug. 6  the Putnam Funeral Home Chapel, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008.

Internment followed at Tow Cemetery.

Woodrow W. Thomas, 95, of Bertram and formerly of Burnet, died Aug. 5, 2011, in the Bertram Nursing Home. He was born in Fairland April 11, 1916, to Edward J. Sr. and Ada Gilley Thomas.

He was a carpenter by trade and an avid Burnet High School Bulldogs fan. He was a member of the Church of Christ, having been baptized by Silas Howell in 1939, and served as a deacon of the Burnet Church of Christ for many years.

He was a self-taught musician, having learned to play the guitar at age 7, and was an accomplished fiddle player by his early teens. He entered many fiddle contests across Central Texas, not caring if he won — he did it for the thrill of playing his beloved fiddle.

Survivors include his son Kelley and wife Patsy Thomas of Bertram; daughter Karen and husband Terry Haines of Bertram; grandchildren Ronda and husband Greg Elston of Eula, Jeffrey C. Thomas of Burnet, Rod Fike and wife Linnette of Houston,

Blake Thomas and wife Anna of Austin and Jay Haines and wife Mary of Austin; nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister Jo and husband Gene Barnard of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, LaHoma Hallmark Thomas, whom he married in 1937; his parents; six sisters; and five brothers.

A service was Aug. 8 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444, with Lanny Hallmark officiating.

Interment followed in Burnet City Cemetery.
