Cecil Calvert Coberly
Cecil Calvert Coberly, 72, died July 27, 2011, in Florida. He was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Red Level, Ala. His family moved to Pensacola, Fla., while he was in elementary school. After finishing high school, he completed training as a sheet-metal mechanic.
He joined the Army in his early 20s and was stationed at Fort Hood. During this time he met Ruth Ella Nichols. They married soon after he was released from active duty.
For the next couple of years, the couple traveled where his work took them. They decided to return to Central Texas to make their home on the Rolling Nichols Ranch, where his wife grew up. He ranched and did sheet-metal work.
The couple were active members of the Joppa Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Burnet.
His wife died in 1991 after a long illness.
In 1992, he married Nancy Vaughn. In 1995, they retired to Navarre, Fla., close to where he grew up.
Survivors include children Grady and Carolyn; his second wife; his sister Irene; and brothers James and Douglas and their families.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Betty Jo.
A Masonic graveside service was Aug. 1, Auspices of Valley View Lodge No. 175 AF & AM, with the Rev. Don Long officiating,
Interment followed at the Post Mountain Cemetery, Burnet, with the Highland Lakes Honor Guard presiding.
