David Gordon Walker
David Gordon Walker, 84, of Meadowlakes died July 8, 2011. He was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., on Dec. 16, 1926, to David and Marjorie (Sears) Walker.
He graduated Newark Academy in 1944 and entered the Navy Officer Training V-12 program at Tufts University in July 1944. He was discharged from service in June 1946 and returned to Tufts, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1948.
The Marine Corps called him up for the Korean War but he was never deployed and was discharged in January 1952.
He was an oil field roustabout with Mobil, sold oil field chemicals for Tretolite, was an engineering editor for Offshore Magazine, served in an administrative position with Johnson Testers, worked for a Houston industrial advertising agency and then had his own advertising agency, specializing in technical writing. During this time, he wrote three sports book, and after retiring to Marble Falls, wrote a nonfiction book.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jane (Ellison) Walker of Meadowlakes, whom he married in 1987; daughters Terri Walker of Austin and Dr. Kim Walker of Temple; sons Chris Walker and Jake Walker, both of Houston; stepdaughter Susan Cagle of Friendswood; stepson Randall Johnson of Galveston; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held later.
