MARBLE FALLS — If residents see a bunch of lycra-clad people biking and running around town July 17, they shouldn’t be alarmed — their just athletes in the Marble Falls Triathlon.

But after 11 years, organizer Mario Gonzales said most people don’t raise an eyebrow to the competitors anymore.

“I think the event has become a part of the Marble Falls summer,” he said. “When we first started the event, it was considered ‘different’ out here. But over the years as more local people are running, cycling and even walking, the triathlon is considered a typical summer event.”

The 11th annual Marble Falls Triathlon attracts athletes from across Central Texas and the state to swim, bike and run in the Highland Lakes. The event starts at 7 a.m. July 17 at Lakeside Park on Buena Vista Drive in Marble Falls. Competitors will start with a 1-kilometer swim, followed by a 23-mile bike ride and topped off with a 4.4-mile run. For more, visit www.marblefallstri.com. File photo
