Joyce Vernell Morris, 72, of Kingsland and formerly of Austin, died July 3, 2011. She was born to Clyde and Adeline (Stromquist) Johnson Feb. 22, 1939, in Austin.

She worked for the Lower Colorado River Authority, the Horseshoe Lounge and the Kingsland/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. She loved spending time with her family, playing the lottery, slot machines and watching horse races.  She was an avid reader, enjoying self-help books and the Bible.

Another favorite hobby was taking care of her small yard in her community.

Survivors include children Diane Dettmann and husband Calvin, and Christopher Morris and wife Elizabeth, all of Austin, and Donna Morris of Pflugerville; grandchildren Christopher G. Morris and Scott Morris, both of Austin, and Joshua Emerson and Jordan Emerson, both of Pflugerville; sister Clydene Bennett of Hurtsboro, Ala.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Nancy Hall and husband Hugh Hall.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. July 8 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Anderson Lane in Austin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
