Sammy Hillman Russell
Sammy Hillman Russell, 73, died June 21, 2011, after a battle with cancer. He was born in Gorman on Jan. 30, 1938, to Grady Hillman and Jessie F. Wilks Russell.
He attended Tarleton State College and North Texas State College in Denton and majored in English and journalism.
He joined the Navy and served in 1956-1959 as a radar man 2nd class. After his discharge, he founded a film and production company in Dallas. He also formed a film school in Dallas.
He had a deep love of knowledge and persisted in studies of history, philosophy and, particularly, religion. His life’s accomplishments were raising a family and living free. He was a true gentleman. His family and friends will celebrate his life in their hearts forever.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline Russell of Bluffton; sons Scott Russell of Denver and Steven Russell of Austin; and brother Grady Russell of Oklahoma.
