Vernon Lee Brown, 85, of Buchanan Dam died June 19, 2011, with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Uvalde Feb. 21, 1926, to Charles Day Brown and Lessie Mae McMains.

He married Alma Waldine “Dolly” Maples in Columbus on Nov. 15, 1951.

He served in the Navy 1943-1946 as a torpedo man on a destroyer. After leaving the Navy, he worked at Southern Pacific for several years. From Oct. 30, 1950, until his retirement in 1982, he was employed by Dow Chemical Co.

He and his wife lived in Velasco in 1950 for 1½ years, and then moved to their home on Southhampton in Angleton where they stayed until 1984. After retirement, they moved to Buchanan Dam to enjoy the easy life.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing with family and friends, camping with his family and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; sons Terry Lee Brown of Angleton, and Jerry Keith Brown and wife Lori of Conroe; grandchildren Cameron Keith Brown of Conroe and Shannon Elaine Brown of Sugarland; brothers-in-law Thomas G. Maples of San Antonio and Alfred L. Maples and wife Dorothy of Smithwick; sister-in-law Nola Brown of Waleska, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special neighbor Pat Pucik; his cat Sarah Jane; and dog Susie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Leo Maurice Brown, Lora Nell Brown, Paul Curtis Brown and Glenn Brown.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. June 21 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.

A service is 10 a.m. June 23 at the funeral home with interment following at Bluffton Cemetery in Tow.
